A Note on Moduli Stabilisation in Heterotic Models in the Presence of Matter Fields

In this brief note we analyse a toy model which can be derived from heterotic string compactifications on half-flat manifolds with SU(3) structure at first order in α (ie including matter fields). We show that for this model, finding solutions with viable gauge group poses the same problems as finding solutions in the absence of matter fields.

Heterotic Standard Model Moduli

In previous papers, we introduced a heterotic standard model and discussed its basic properties. The Calabi-Yau threefold has, generically, three Kähler and three complex structure moduli. The observable sector of this vacuum has the spectrum of the MSSM with one additional pair of Higgs-Higgs conjugate fields. The hidden sector has no charged matter in the strongly coupled string and only mini...

Moduli Evolution in Heterotic Scenarios

We discuss several aspects of the cosmological evolution of moduli fields in heterotic string/M-theory scenarios. In particular we study the equations of motion of both the dilaton and overall modulus of these theories in the presence of an expanding Universe and under different assumptions. First we analyse the impact of their couplings to matter fields, which turns out to be negligible in the...

Moduli Stabilization in Heterotic M-theory

We examine the stabilization of the two typical moduli, the length ρ of the eleventh segment and the volume V of the internal six manifold, in compactified heterotic M -theory. It is shown that, under certain conditions, the phenomenologically favored vacuum expectation values of ρ and V can be obtained by the combined effects of multi-gaugino condensations on the hidden wall and the membrane i...

Racetrack inflation and assisted moduli stabilisation

We present a model of inflation based on a racetrack model without flux stabilization. The initial conditions are set automatically through topological inflation. This ensures that the dilaton is not swept to weak coupling through either thermal effects or fast roll. Including the effect of non-dilaton fields we find that moduli provide natural candidates for the inflaton. The resulting potenti...
